Coolly Clicking

The hot summer temperatures are here!  As we escape into the cool of our home offices and family rooms, there are ways we can help those around the world.  As we are call to be “in the world,” as Christians,

Here on the coast we should be aware of preparedness for our storm season.  We have been so blessed to have several quiet years after our bouts with Ivan and Katrina.  Some of the clicks listed below are to help you update your family plan and be responsive to our community.  Others are links that support worthy causes in health and world awareness.

Links and clicks to consider . . .

There are ways to give in simple The Child Health Site and make health services possible that will save and improve the lives of children living in poverty. It's free.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Site provides free mammograms for women who could not otherwise afford the screening.

Get Certified CERT

CERT training is a step up from our Early Response Training and is a 20 hour course.  There are courses being taught this summer at Orange Beach and one could be offered here at GSUMC.  Please let Servant Ministries know if you are interested.   CERT training will:

- Educate individuals about Disaster Preparedness for hazards that may impact their area;
- Trains individuals in basic disaster response skills, such as:

Disaster Medical Operations (First aid, triage and treatment)
Fire Safety
Light Search & Rescue
Incident Command System (team organization)
Disaster Psychology

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their familiies, neighbors, and/or co-workers following an emergency in the event professional responders are not immediately available to help

Thanks   Thanks   Thanks    Blood Drive

Thanks for the 22 pints of blood you donated and the unit of red blood cells donated.  That will provide people in Baldwin County with 60 units of blood they would not have otherwise have available. We didn’t quite make our goal, but we will try again in the fall.  So get ready to roll up that sleeve again

Thanks also go to the ten folks who attended ICS (Incident Command Training) in Robertsdale.  This training helps us in any emergency situation.  The training is also available online @ training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/Is/is100.asp  and is recommended for those preparing to respond.  If you have taken our Early Response course, then please consider adding this course.
